School of Pharmacy accreditation renewed through 2023
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education has renewed accreditation for the VCU School of Pharmacy’s doctor of pharmacy program for a full eight-year cycle, effective through June 2023.
“This recognition is a testament to the School of Pharmacy’s commitment to nationally premier research, academic excellence, clinical care, and community engagement,” said VCU President Michael Rao. “With their outstanding faculty members and students, VCU’s School of Pharmacy has become a national leader in pharmacy education.”
A fall 2014 site visit by the ACPE Evaluation Team produced “an excellent report that noted many positive findings,” said School of Pharmacy Dean Joseph T. DiPiro.
Teaching methods and assessment within the Pharm.D. program received exceptional recognition. The team also complimented the school on a progressive and innovative curriculum, excellent faculty, the importance of professionalism and excellent student services and experiential education offices.
The school’s self-study was commended for having been well-presented and for representing an accurate picture of the status of the academic, research and service programs.
“Our committees will address a few points that will require monitoring,” said DiPiro. That includes active planning for physical space needs for current programs as well as future growth. Classrooms, labs and faculty and administrative offices now extend beyond the MCV Campus’ primary teaching facility, the Smith Building, to McGuire Hall and Biotech One. The school also has two satellite programs, the Inova Campus and the U.Va. Division, that accommodate a number of third- and fourth-year students.
Notice of the accreditation status will appear this month in the ACPE Report of the Proceedings.
