The leaders of the VCU School of Pharmacy were celebrated at the 2013 Galen Society Dinner Nov. 1 at the Commonwealth Club. The event honored donors, student leaders and National Advisory Council members of the VCU School of Pharmacy and recognized their leadership.

Dean Victor Yanchick thanked Galen attendees for supporting the work of the school. “Private gifts are what provide the excellence at our school,” he said.  “We look to state support to cover our basic operations – private philanthropy enables us to achieve excellence above and beyond basic services.”

All new Galen members were recognized with a Galen lapel pin and a warm round of applause.

VCU School of Pharmacy National Advisory Council Chairwoman Janet Silvester heightened the tone of the evening with a surprise announcement.  “We all know that this will be our dean, Victor Yanchick’s, last Galen Dinner. In honor of all Vic has done for the school and pharmacy in Virginia, the members of the National Advisory Council have created an endowment in his honor.  This group has raised $17,500 to create the Victor A. Yanchick Endowment, which we hope will grow over the next six months, as we plan for his retirement.”

The evening took a turn toward the recognition of Yanchick’s leadership and his contributions to the school. The event closed with a series of toasts from students, faculty and alumni thanking Yanchick for his leadership and commitment.

The Yanchick Endowment will be housed at the MCV Foundation.  If you would like to contribute to the endowment, please contact Ellen Carfagno at (804) 828-3016 or [email protected], or visit www.support.vcu.edu/give/pharmacy.
