Seventeen Pharm.D. and graduate students from VCU School of Pharmacy were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi on Nov. 15: Dave Allen, Jeff Beall, Will Cang, Lauren Cherry, Poonam Delvadia, Tanvi Deshpande, Batul Electricwala, Ashley Goodrich, Tim Inocencio, Julie Kaplan, Sudha Korwar, Bassem Mohammed, Xiaolei Pan, Rose Salzberg, Seth Strawbridge, Tiffany VanDervort and Li Wang.

The national honor society was founded in 1897, and Virginia Commonwealth University’s chapter was established in 1976. Phi Kappa Phi’s objectives are to promote the pursuit of excellence in all fields of higher education and to recognize outstanding achievement by students, faculty and others through election to membership and awards.

Allen, Beall, Cherry, Salzberg, Strawbridge and VanDervort attended the initiation ceremony at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, along with School of Pharmacy Dean Victor Yanchick; Tom Reinders, associate dean for admissions and student services; and Jeffrey Delafuente, associate dean for academic affairs.

Within the VCU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, Delafuente serves as the 2012-13 vice president for alumni and faculty relations.

Yanchick served as 2007-08 chapter president. Other School of Pharmacy faculty who previously served as president are William Garnett, 2000-01; and Werner Lowenthal, 1987-88.
