Rho Chi, a national honor society for pharmacy, was created in 1922 by the merger of two groups that had originated five years earlier, one on the campus of the University of Michigan and the other with the American Conference of Pharmaceutical Faculties (now known as the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy). The high standards required and maintained for membership earned Rho Chi a place in the Association of College Honor Societies in 1947.
Rho Chi’s primary objective is to promote the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences by encouraging and recognizing sound scholarship. Each new member receives an octagonal Rho Chi key, the sides of which stand for pharmacy, pharmacognosy, chemistry, biology, clinical sciences, physiology, pharmacology and pharmacy administration.
