The 2011 School of Pharmacy Student Pharmacists Internship and Career Fair took place Feb. 23 in the Smith Building’s new Room 129 — behind the glass-enclosed artifacts wall. Eleven potential employers showcased their organizations for the benefit of first- and second-year Pharm.D. students.
The internship and career fair is sponsored by the school’s Office of Admissions and Student Services. Seven community and four hospital pharmacy organizations were represented, allowing students a look at the various types of internships and employment available to them.
Tom Reinders, associate dean for admissions and student services, and Ron Ballentine, assistant director, also were on hand for the two-hour event.
Participating SOP alumni were Phil Morris (B.S. ’85) for CVS, David Flammia (B.S. ’94) and Anne Harrison (B.S. ’96) for Kroger, Bill Cropper (B.S. ’85) and Billy Lambrinides (B.S. ’93) for Rite Aid, Cherri Mohler (B.S. ’77, Pharm.D. ’99) for Walgreens and Allen Freeman (B.S. ’93) for Walmart.
Student organizations took advantage of the crowd by setting up an SOP sale table with sweatshirts, bags, patches and the like. There’s another benefit of the new student commons area, by the way: In addition to affording extra meeting space, it provides a waiting room, of sorts, for first-floor events!
