Antoinette Coe (P4) and Melissa Carroll (P4) are winners of the local American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Clinical Skills Competition.

Coe and Carroll will go on to compete in the National Clinical Skills Competition at ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando, Fla., in December.

Twenty-two VCU School of Pharmacy teams competed in the written portion of the local competition.

“I think this is a record!” said Nancy Yunker, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy and advisor for SVSHP (Student Chapter of the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists).

The top four groups – Coe and Carroll, Josh Crawford (P4) and Alexis Noble (P3), Lina Saliba (P3) and Jennifer Austin (P3), and Sean Carlton (P4) and Paul Hansen (P4) — orally presented their pharmacist care plans. The combined written plan and oral presentation score determined the winning team.

Yunker said this is the first year Inova Campus teams participated in the competition: four students there and one student who drove to Richmond and competed with a student on this campus.

As a reminder to all Midyear Clinical Meeting attendees, a Virginia reception will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Rosen Plaza Hotel, 9700 International Drive in Orlando
