This just in: Justin Elenewski and Genevieve Sirles, students in the School of Pharmacy’s Ph.D. program, have been recognized by the Virginia Academy of Science.

Both made oral presentations on their research May 22 at the Medical Science Section of VAS’ 86th annual meeting at Hampton University.

Elenewski — a student of Richard Glennon, chairman of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry – has been awarded first place for “Docking and functional interactions of agonists and antagonists with a h5-HT6 receptor model.” Sirles, who placed third with “Antinociceptive actions of TDIQ – an isobolographic analysis, ” is a student of Malgorzata Dukat, associate professor of medicinal chemistry.

Last year, students in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry received all three awards. That means the same department, school and university garnered five out of six awards in two years.

VAS’ 87th annual meeting will take place May 26-29 at VCU.
