DID YOU KNOW … October is American Pharmacists Month? It hasn’t quite gained the notoriety of Valentine’s Day or Christmas when it comes to mass recognition, card exchanges and gift-giving … but yes, Virginia, you can order pill bottle-shaped stress balls, Cure-All Clip Caddies (paper-clip holders marked with your organization’s name and the words “Your Rx for Trash”) and pill-cutter key chains.

You have to buy them in bulk, of course, but still … trust promo-meisters to pick up on every “holiday,” whether it’s a holiday or not.

Most people are aware that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as American Pharmacists Month.

But according to epromos.com, recognizing your favorite pharmacist – or pharmaceutical scientist – is also up against a plethora of good people, organizations and causes, including Vegetarian Awareness Month, National Dental Hygiene Month, National Crime Prevention Month, Diversity Awareness Month, Polish American Heritage Month, Photographer Appreciation Month … well, you get the picture.

October, as it happens, is also Class Reunion Month. So the timing is perfect for VCU School of Pharmacy’s 11th annual Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Programs Research and Career Day in conjunction with its 50th Anniversary Graduate Alumni Reunion. Mark your calendars for Oct. 16-17.

By the way, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists has designated Oct. 19-25 as National Hospital and Health-System Pharmacy Week … not to be confused with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists’ National Consultant and Senior Care Pharmacists Week.

And don’t forget National Pharmacy Technicians Day Oct. 21.

Something for everyone.
