Debra Barksdale, Ph.D., FNP-BC, CNE, FAANP, FAAN, associate dean of academic affairs and the Nursing Alumni Endowed Professor at the VCU School of Nursing, was reappointed as chair of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s (PCORI) Engagement, Dissemination, and Implementation committee (EDIC) for a two-year term. Barksdale is one of only two non-physicians leading a committee.

PCORI funds research projects designed to improve patient care and outcomes through patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research.

The EDIC, chaired by Barksdale, is tasked with establishing PCORI as a trusted leader in patient-centered outcomes research and clinical effectiveness research by utilizing communication strategies to engage key audiences and influencing their understanding and utilization of the research. In addition, Barksdale’s committee focuses on engaging patients, caregivers, payers, providers, health systems, and other stakeholders to create a diverse community of partners for patient-centered outcomes research who are knowledgeable and fully able to partner in projects.
