Donors of $1,000 or more to the Clinical Scholars Endowment in the VCU School of Nursing were recognized for their dedication at a recent Clinical Scholars Circle event in honor of alumna Mimi Bennett (B.S. ’72/N; M.S. ’76/N). The first Clinical Scholars award has been named in honor of Bennett, who worked as a nurse in the VCU Health System for 36 years before retiring in recent years. Since Bennett specialized in Women’s Health, one of the first Clinical Scholars awards was presented to Kathleen Martin Bell, RNC-OB, WHNP-BC (B.S. ’07/N; M.S. ’11/N), clinical instructor, and Sue Lindner, M.S.N., RNC-OB (B.S. ’04/N), clinical assistant professor, both in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing. The award supports their project to train student nurses to serve as doulas for underserved women in the Richmond area. Daphne Terrell, RN, CNRN (M.S. ’08/N), clinical instructor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems, was recognized as the second recipient of the Mimi Bennett Clinical Scholars award. Terrell is working with Susan Lindner on a project introducing a simulated electronic health record into the clinical education of SON students during their first semester of nursing study to provide for a more seamless transition into the clinical environment.

Thirty guests participated in the celebration at Willow Oaks Country Club. Click here to view more photos on our facebook album .
