VCU/MCV Campus Community Health Fair – Vounteers Needed!
The VCU/MCV Campus Community Health Fair this year is taking place on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Armstrong High School from 9 am to 3 pm. This is the fourth year of the MCV-organized community health fair; however, it is the first at which any nursing students will have been a part of the organization/planning process. The goal of the health fair is to have participation from all MCV Campus disciplines, provide the community insight into what these disciplines do, and provide them with free basic health services.
Last year, Nursing Students Without Borders was the only Nursing group represented, and we would like to see greater involvement from the SoN. Some of the services that will be available are glucose screenings, cholesterol screenings, and BMI/waist circumferences. MCV students will be providing the screenings themselves; however, we are looking for nurses who would like to volunteer counseling services. Or, if you have a certain topic that you believe would particularly benefit the community, please feel free to sign up to have an education table at the fair through the email below.
We are also trying to find students (it doesn’t matter if they are Bachelor’s or Master’s) and nurses who are interested in representing the nursing school for the years they are here, so as to increase Nursing’s involvement in the health fair. Students interested in this leadership position can use the contact information below.
Email Alisa Holder at holdera@vcu.edu if you are interested in volunteering on March 5th, and include the times you are available (if you aren’t available for the whole day, don’t worry- any amount of time would be appreciated!). If you would prefer to have a table (feel free to join forces with others so you don’t have to run it by yourself), let Alisa know what topic you will be presenting.
