Two Nursing Students to Receive Phi Kappa Phi Scholarships
Two VCU School of Nursing students were recently selected as scholarship recipients by Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. They were nominated and selected from a pool of applications that doubled in number of submissions compared to last year. The following students were selected as scholarship recipients:
Jennah Faulkner, a senior nursing student from Clover, S.C., will receive the the Lauren A. Woods Graduate Scholarship. This $3,000 graduate scholarship is given to an individual who has shown excellent scholastic achievement and is planning to pursue graduate or professional studies. Faulkner will also be the School of Nursing’s nomination for the Phi Kappa Phi National Fellowship, a national award of $5,000 given by the Phi Kappa Phi national office to 60 graduating seniors from universities across the country. Faulkner is enrolled in the Honors College and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau, in addition to her role as communications chair for Nursing Students Without Borders (NSWB). She has also participated in the Alumni Connector Program. Her service work has included traveling to Guatemala with NSWB to participate in women’s health screenings, volunteering at Richmond health fairs and the Hilda Barg homeless shelter, and serving as a volunteer Doula in the Richmond area. For the past year, Faulkner has worked as a care partner on the Labor and Delivery floor at the VCU Health System.
Elizabeth Early, a junior nursing student from Yorktown, Va., will receive the Wayne C. Hall Undergraduate Scholarship. This $3,000 university-wide award named in honor of Dr. Wayne C. Hall, former VCU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, and the second president of the VCU Phi Kappa Phi Chapter, is given to a rising senior who has shown academic excellence. Early is minoring in religious studies and is enrolled in the Honors College. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and attends meetings and lectures for the Religious Studies Society. Outside of the classroom, Early volunteers at homeless shelters each month and has participated in an archaeological dig in Israel.
