The VCU School of Nursing joined the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority and Richmond City Health District for the opening of the Hillside Resource Center on April 9. The center, located at 1615 Glenfield Avenue, is the first resource center on the city’s south side.

The center is available for the underserved community to receive convenient resources for both mental and physical health.  Through its Community Health Nursing courses, the School of Nursing will promote health and wellness at the center, including screenings, checkups and nutrition information, with students getting hands-on experience as part of their clinicals.  This is the second resource center that VCU Nursing is working with as part of its community outreach. The Mosby Resource Center in Churchill opened in April of 2011.

The ribbon cutting featured remarks by city officials, including Mayor Dwight C. Jones,  as well as an opening celebration. School of Nursing students staffed three booths offering health and wellness information.
