In observance of February as Black History Month, the VCU School of Nursing’s Committee for Cultural Action is hosting a “One Book, One School” discussion on Monday, Feb. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. in room 1015.  Light refreshments will be served. Students, faculty and staff are invited to come discuss “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” The book is about Henrietta Lacks, known by scientists as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medicine. Henrietta Lacks still remains virtually unknown, buried in an unmarked grave. Copies of the book are available at the VCU Library.
