VCU School of Nursing held its 24th Annual Sadie Heath Cabaniss Society event last week to recognize donors who have made significant contributions to the school. More than 100 alumni and friends attended the event held at the Country Club of Virginia.

The Sadie Heath Cabaniss Society is a leadership annual giving group named in honor of Cabaniss, who is widely recognized as the founder of the school.

School of Nursing Dean and Professor Jean Giddens, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, thanked donors for supporting the school’s initiatives. She also provided an update on key accomplishments from the past year as well as activities happening this fall.

“We’re able to achieve so many milestones and advance as a leader in nursing education because of your continued support,” Giddens told donors.

Pamela Lowe, senior director of development of the School of Nursing, joined Giddens in presenting a special Cabaniss plate to the newest members of the Distinguished Cabaniss Society. The society includes donors who have made a commitment of $1,000 or more for the first time between July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019.

“The Cabaniss plate is the School of Nursing’s tradition of recognizing and honoring this notable group of donors,” Lowe said. “The plate represents the educational nourishment our school is able to provide to current and future generations of nursing students, thanks to the generosity of each member of the Cabaniss Society.”

Honorees in attendance included new distinguished member Sue Taylor (M.S.’79/N), Corinne Dorsey (Diploma’54/N; B.S.’65/N), who accepted the plate on behalf of her cousins, new distinguished members Shirley and William Hayes; and new distinguished member Robin Reed (B.S.’06/N).

Other new Distinguished Cabaniss Society members include:

  • Donor representatives from the estate of Rebecca Peebles Bowen – (Mary Dunn Conover and Rebecca Anne Lilley)
