VCU School of Nursing’s Clinical Learning Center (CLC) was the site of a press conference recently to announce the university’s support of the newly launched Growth4VA campaign. Growth4VA will focus on promoting reform and reinvestment in Virginia’s top-ranked higher education system. The campaign, backed by a partnership of higher education and business leaders, focuses on four strategies:

  • Make Virginia the top state for talent.
  • Become recognized as the home of innovators and entrepreneurs.
  • Prepare Virginians for great jobs and great lives.
  • Provide affordable access for all Virginians.

Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of VCU and VCU Health System, and Jean Giddens, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, ANEF, dean and professor of the VCU School of Nursing, were among the speakers who expressed a shared commitment to the campaign’s focus. Other speakers included Susan Hunter, Ph.D., dean, School of Nursing and Allied Health, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College; Delegate John O’Bannon; Jan Gannon, chief nurse executive, HCA Capital Division; and Dennis Treacy, member, Virginia Business Higher Education Council and president, Smithfield Foundation.

Following the press conference, attendees had the opportunity to tour the school’s CLC to view students participating in simulated patient experiences with manikins. The School of Nursing has graduated thousands of nurses to provide health care in facilities throughout Virginia and beyond. Read the official VCU announcement about the Growth4VA campaign.
