VCU School of Nursing welcomes new faculty and staff
VCU School of Nursing recently welcomed several new faculty and staff. The following have joined the school since July 1:
Michael R. Bleich, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, president and CEO of NursDynamics, LLC, has joined the school for a one-year visiting senior professorship. A recognized scholar and thought leader, Bleich has held clinical, consultative, service, academic, and association leadership positions. Among his many contributions important to the advancement of the discipline is his engagement as one of the five nurses on the committee that wrote the seminal report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” issued through the Institute of Medicine and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. At the School of Nursing, he will be working on a number of initiatives, including the Richmond Health and Wellness Program and the Langston Center for Quality, Safety and Innovation, as well as helping the school with its three to five-year strategic planning.
Hayley Fried has joined the school as a manager of the Biobehavioral Research Laboratory. She recently served as a research assistant at James Madison University. Fried graduated from James Madison University with B.S. degrees in both biology and health sciences.
Terry Jones, Ph.D., RN, has joined the school as associate professor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She most recently served as an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to her academic career, Jones served in various clinical and administrative roles at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas, Texas. Jones’ program of research centers on evaluating and improving the quality of nursing care. She received a B.S. in nursing from Marycrest College and an M.S. in nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Jones also earned an M.S. in clinical science from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center School of Biomedical Sciences and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Brekk Macpherson, ACNP-BC, CCRN, CNRN, has joined the school as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. He most recently served an acute care nurse practitioner at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Macpherson received a B.S. in nursing from the University of New Mexico and an M.S. in nursing from the University of South Alabama.
Ethlyn McQueen-Gibson, DNP(c), M.S.N., RN, BC, has joined the school as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing. She most recently served as a nursing administrator for Riverside Health System in Newport News. McQueen-Gibson graduated from Ursuline College with a B.S. in nursing and earned an M.S. in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. She is currently a DNP candidate at Ursuline College.
Juliane Milburn, Ph.D., RN, has joined the school as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing. She most recently served as a professor of nursing at Piedmont Virginia Community College, as well as an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the University of Virginia School of Nursing. Milburn graduated from El Camino College with an associate’s degree in nursing, and earned an M.S. in nursing as a family nurse practitioner from Vanderbilt University. She earned her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Virginia School of Nursing with a research focus on maternity care of the Latino population.
Ingrid Pretzer-Aboff, Ph.D., RN, has joined the school as associate professor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She most recently served as an associate professor at the University of Delaware School of Nursing, and is co-founder and former director of the Parkinson’s Clinic at the University of Delaware Nurse Managed Primary Care Center. Pretzer-Aboff earned her B.S. in nursing from New York University and her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Tammy Williams, Ph.D., M.S.N., RN, has joined the school as assistant professor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She most recently taught for Longwood University’s Nursing Program and served as the program director for the RN to B.S.N. Program. Williams graduated from VCU with a B.S. in psychology, an M.S. in exercise physiology and both a B.S. and M.S. in nursing. She earned her Ph.D. in education from Capella University specializing in nursing education.
Christine Wynd, Ph.D., RN, has joined the school as professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing. Wynd retired as a full colonel with the United States Army after 30 years of service that included chief of nursing services at two separate combat support hospitals and army reserve representative to the assistant chief nurse, Army Nurse Corps in Washington, D.C. She most recently served as president and dean of the Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Wynd earned a B.S. in nursing from Saint John College (now Ursuline College) and an M.S. in nursing from The Ohio State University. She earned her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University with a research focus on health promotion/smoking cessation and nursing history.
