VCU School of Nursing students in Community Health Nursing (NURS 416) recently participated in Kindergarten Registration Day at G.H. Reid Elementary School in Richmond. The students provided health education using the “9-5-2-1-0” mnemonic during the registration day fair. They also assisted school nurse Jeanne Yeager, RN (B.S.’83/N) in reviewing health forms and vaccination records to ensure completeness for parents registering children starting kindergarten in September.

“9-5-2-1-0” is an initiative of the Virginia Department of Health as a way to remember to get at least nine hours of sleep a night, eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day, get less than two hours of screen time daily, get at least one hour of exercise daily and have zero sugary drinks each day.

Featured in the photo left to right are Bernice Vergara, Mary Kathryn Shurlds, Karina Bedosky, Deveny Mendez and Shanna Waldo (back row); Katie Cundiff, Jazmin Jones and Stephanie Bravo (front row).
