The VCU School of Nursing, the VCU Institute for Women’s Health and CARE present the next Global Women’s Health Lecture on Thursday, April 19. “No Woman, No Cry,” a movie and discussion, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in Younger Auditorium. The movie is a gripping directorial debut for Christy Turlington Burns, who shares the powerful stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world, including a remote Maasai tribe in Tanzania, a slum of Bangladesh, a post-abortion care ward in Guatemala, and a prenatal clinic in the United States. Janet Forte, M.S.W., LCSW, assistant professor of psychiatry and program director of the VCU Institute for Women’s Health, will lead the discussion following the movie on behalf of CARE. As a leading organization that fights global poverty by empowering women and girls, CARE has made reducing maternal mortality one of its top priorities. Students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be available.
