Several faculty and students from the School of Nursing were among the presenters at the recent Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners annual conference held at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. Carley Lovell, M.S.N., M.A., WHNP-BC, RN, presented a poster that tied for second place via a peer vote. The poster was titled “The Current Practice of the Nurse Practitioner in Combating Obesity in America.” Angela Bataille, M.S., RN, post masters FNP student, and Melissa Rooney, B.S., RN, an adult health primary care NP student, also presented at the VCNP conference. Their posted was titled “Relationship between prealbumin levels and duration of intubation, ICU and hospital stay as a beginning investigation into factors that affect patient outcomes.” Lovell is also scheduled for a presentation at a national conference sponsored by Drexel University, entitled “Simulation in Healthcare: Where No One Has Gone Before,” on March 23. She will speak about using low fidelity simulation to enhance safety in medication administration among entry level nursing students.
