Robin Hills, M.S., WHNP-BC, CNE, clinical assistant professor, was invited to provide expert testimony at the House Rules Subcommittee on Feb. 2 in support of HJ147, a resolution study proposed by Del. Charniele Herring from Northern Virginia which would direct the Joint Commission on Health Care to study options and develop recommendations for implementing expedited partner therapy in the Commonwealth. Expedited partner therapy is defined as “the practice of treating the sex partners of persons with STDs without an intervening medical evaluation.” The evidence suggests that the adoption of laws supportive of EPT will improve women’s health, and the CDC along with ACOG, the AMA and the American Bar Association have published opinion statements in support of EPT implementation. Delegate Herring presented a bill before the General Assembly in the 2011 Session.
