VCU alum appointed to CMS post
Marilyn Tavenner, who received her B.S. in Nursing and Master’s in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, has been named the principal deputy administrator at the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Tavenner was appointed as Virginia’s secretary of health and human resources in 2006 by Gov. Tim Kaine. Prior to serving as secretary, Tavenner worked for HCA, beginning as a nurse and completing her tenure as president of outpatient services.
