On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 14 PhD students and 4 of their faculty attended the open session of the NINR National Advisor Council for Nursing Research (NACNR). The NACNR provides the second level of review of grant applications and, perhaps most importantly, reviews the Institute’s extramural programs and makes recommendations about its intramural research activities — they set the direction for nursing research.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the PhD students heard a presentation on “extramural concepts,” which may become future funding opportunities, and also very interesting presentations from Dr. Patricia Grady, Director of the NINR, and Dr. Linda Birnbaum, Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Grady, NACNR members, and NINR program staff.
