IRB CITI Training Clarification

The Office of Research Subjects Protections requires all investigators and those involved in human subject research to complete CITI training.
  • CITI Initial Training: CITI BASIC Human Subjects Protection Training Bio-Medical OR Social Behavioral
    • Note: CITI’s Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) courses does not meet the IRB’s requirement; please ensure you complete the CITI Basic Human Subjects Protection course.
    • Note: If you completed Basic (Bio-Medical or Social Behavioral) CITI training at a prior institution, you must formally transfer those courses to VCU through the CITI website, OR you may provide a copy of your certificate of completion to our office.
  • CITI Refresher Training – The CITI Refresher Human Subjects Protection course is required to be taken every 2 years after the Basic course is complete
    • Please be sure you have taken the Human Subjects Protection Basic course before enrolling in a refresher.
