VIRBs (VCU IRB system) go-live update: submission deadlines and transition information
Greetings VCU Research Community,
Here are a few important reminders as we prepare for conversion to our new VCU IRB system (VIRBs):
1) Our existing system, RAMS IRB, will be down starting 7/18/25 – our new electronic IRB submission system, VIRBs, will go live 8/7/25. If you have a human research study that requires continuing review, please note submission deadlines below:
2) Conversion reminders: if your study is not in a final, complete state it may not transition to VIRBs. Please respond to all changes requested by IRB staff, deferrals, conditional approvals, etc no later than 7/18/25.
3) Please CLOSE all inactive studies by 7/18/25: if your study activities are complete (no longer enrolling new participants OR interacting or intervening with research participants AND no longer analyzing identifiable research information) please CLOSE your study in RAMS.
4) Studies that do NOT have a protocol document may need to transition to a protocol-based application before the next required continuing review. Please visit the VIRBs website to read more about first touch options.
