Updates on the new VCU IRB System *VIRBs*
With the HRPP moving swiftly towards implementation of our new IRB review system, VIRBs, we have several announcements and reminders we would like to share with our research community!

VIRBs Research Community training
As a reminder, the second Research Community training for the new VCU IRB review system (VIRBs) will be held Tuesday, June 17 from 1:30 – 3pm. Training will occur virtually. Registration is required to access the training in real time. If you missed the first training we held for the research community on 6/5, please be sure to review the recording posted on the VCU HRPP Kaltura channel. All research community training sessions will be recorded and posted as training sessions occur. Registrants for training sessions will receive the recording by email following each session.

VIRBs Open labs for the research community
Open lab dates and times for the research community have been posted. Open labs will occur virtually. A single zoom link will be used for all open lab sessions. The first open lab for the research community will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 10am. Registration is NOT required to attend open labs. Open labs will occur in real time. Recordings will NOT take place during open lab sessions. The Researcher’s guide and Multi-site guide have been posted on the New IRB review system: VIRBs (VCU IRB system) web page under ‘New system resources: video links and guides’.

VIRBs Website updates
The following additions and clarifications were recently made to the New IRB review system: VIRBs (VCU IRB system) web page:
- Updates to the ‘VCU new IRB system implementation 2025 timeline’ to specify the deadline of July 11 for IRB Reliance applications. Questions related to IRB reliance applications should be directed to [email protected].
- The schedule for the Research Community Open Labs sessions has been posted, along with a single zoom link that will be accessed for all open labs.
- The Researcher and Multi-site PDF guides have been posted.
- A ‘Revisions tab’ has been added to the bottom of the web page to facilitate transparency for the timeline of edits that occur.
- New FAQs are forthcoming and will be posted on the VIRBs web page soon!
