Human Research Protections News

Timely information supporting human research ethics, quality, and compliance across the research enterprise.

Dear colleagues,

VCU’s Human Research Protection Program has been accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP) since 2007, and VCU is currently undergoing reaccreditation of our program in 2025. AAHRPP is an independent, non-profit accrediting body which uses a voluntary, peer-driven, educational model to ensure that HRPPs meet rigorous standards for quality and protection.

Part of AAHRPP’s reaccreditation process includes a site visit of our program. This site visit will occur, using a virtual format, on April 10-11, 2025. During the site visit, the AAHRPP team will review records, policies and procedures, and other documentation. In addition, they will conduct interviews with various HRPP key personnel and research teams involved in VCU’s human subjects research enterprise, such as institutional research leadership, key research support, ancillary offices, IRB members, HRPP staff, investigators and study staff.

AAHRPP has selected interviewees for the upcoming visit. Those selected for interview have been notified by the HRPP office to provide schedule details and additional information. If you have received a request for interview please respond promptly so the HRPP is able to plan accordingly for AAHRPP’s visit. We appreciate the time and commitment of our research community in facilitating a smooth interview and accreditation process.

Thank you,

The Human Research Protection Program team
