OVPRI Human Subject Research Protection Blog

The VCU Human Research Protection Program is dedicated to facilitating ethically and scientifically sound research through robust review of research projects and through effective education and outreach to the VCU research community.

The VCU Human Research Protection Program would like to inform the VCU research community about the availability of a new educational resource on the topic of re-consenting children who reach the age of majority during a research study.

This 15 minute video lecture covers relevant definitions, requirements for parental permission and assent, as well as the requirements to obtain re-consent from children who “age up” during a research study.

The video is posted below, but can also be accessed on our guidance webpage, under the “Informed Consent” accordion.
