As warm weather begins to return, and outdoor activities ramp up we can’t forget to protect our skin! Spring is here and the sun is in full effect. Though we should be protecting our skin from the sun all year, longer days mean stronger sun rays. Finding a sunscreen can be hard, below are a few key things to look for in your products!

  • Choose broad spectrum protection, these sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Having a broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against premature aging, skin cancer and sunburn.
  • Look for products with SPF 30 or higher. The SPF (sun protection factor) number is the protection against UVB rays, the higher the number the more you’re protected.
  • Water resistant does not mean sweat proof or waterproof. They should still be applied at least every 40 to 80 minutes if swimming or sweating. In general sunscreen should be reapplied at least every 2 hours to ensure full protection while out in the sun.

Other ways to stay safe in the sun…

  • Wear clothing that provides a barrier from you and direct sunlight.
  • Remember to wear your sunglasses.
  • Find shady areas, carry an umbrella and most importantly take breaks from the sun
