Shuhua Chen

Shu-Hua Chen, piano professor, doctoral supervisor is currently the vice dean of the college of arts at Xiamen University. After graduating from Central Conservatory of Music as a piano major in 1996, Shu-hua Chen served as faculty. Later, in 1999 he left to further his studies in Germany and graduated from Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik Freiburg im Breisgau (University of Music in Freiburg) in 2003, receiving an artist diploma as a performer. In the following years, Shu-hua Chen continued his pursuits in music education at the University of Freiburg, simultaneously serving as an adjunct vice dean of the conservatory, as well as the assistant to his instructor – Prof. A. Immer.

In 2006, Shu-hua Chen was invited to be a faculty member at Xiamen University, according to the “Bringing Outstanding Talent from Abroad” program. He has given numerous recitals both in China and abroad. As a soloist and a guest pianist for concerto appearances, he has been invited to the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Korea, England, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with great success. In addition to his teaching and performing career, Shu-hua Chen has been invited to be on the judge panel of many prestigious piano competitions, including the Osaka International Music Competition. Several of his students are prize winners in major competitions both in China and abroad. Shu-hua Chen’s publications include two CD recordings of piano performance and several theses that have been recognized as influential research.
