Mihi Kim
French-Korean flutist Mihi Kim is an international and cosmopolitan soloist with almost 1000 concerts to her credit.
Her album “The Blue Rider” – « Le Cavalier Bleu » in collaboration with the pianist Bertrand Giraud, published under the label Anima Records has been Internationally acclaimed by the press.
Since 1996, she has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Hungary, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States, in prestigious halls such as Salle Cortot, Salle Gaveau, Opéra Comique, UNESCO, Théâtre des Champs Elysées and Cité de la Musique (Paris), Ballet de Marseille, Radio France, Théâtre National de Strasbourg, (France), Comédie de Genève (Switzerland), Villa Medici (Rome), Palazzo Chigi Saracini (Siena), Cagliari Opera House (Sardaige) in Italy, Vienna’s Musikverein in Austria, Lodz Philharmonic and Czestochova Philharmonic in Poland; in the prestigious Carnegie Hall (Zankel Hall) in New York (USA), then at Shinagawa Bunka Hall, Musashino Hall (Tokyo) and Kobe Bunka Hall (Kobe) in Japan, Gumho Art Center (Seoul), and at the prestigious Seoul Art Center in Korea.
She collaborates regularly with the pianist Bertrand Giraud with whom she recorded an album “The Blue Rider” (2013, Anima Records), then with Aurélien Pontier (recently awarded the “Choc Classica” for his recording of Liszt Paraphrases), Jennifer Fichet and Teresa Janina Czekaj. Among other chamber music partners are Fabrice Pierre, Pierre-Henri Xuereb and Rachel Talitman. She was the founding member of the Ensemble Musica Universalis, and a member of Ensemble Itineraire, Multilaterale, Paris Chamber Orchestra, and the Takemitsu Trio as well as the Xanthos Trio.
Aficionada of contemporary music, she has participated in numerous recordings of creation under the labels of Mandala / Harmonia Mundi, Aeon and Musicube. Two recordings were recorded under the Label Harp and co. with harpist Rachel Talitman and violist Pierre-Henri Xuereb on the works of F. Kern (“Frida Kern”), Austrian composer, and contemporaries of Debussy titled “Around Debussy “. Various projects are in progress for 2020-2021, notably at Anima Records and Leitmotiv.
Always in modernity but in a distinctive style, Mihi Kim is currently collaborating with composers Armando Ghidoni, Martin Kutnowski and Guy-Claude Luypaerts. Works have been dedicated to her and she has created them especially at concerts around the globe.In 2017, Mihi Kim launches a preview of a “Steampunk” concert in Paris, presenting a whole new genre of music, both classical and modern, driven by electronic media. Warmly welcomed by the Parisian public, the final project will be presented through a series of concerts and events starting in autumn 2020.
Since 1998, Mihi Kim has been Professor of Flûte in Paris and the Paris region. Nominated Professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris and professor at the CRD in Issy-les-Moulineaux (92), she has trained more than 200 professionals from France and abroad. She holds the Certificate of Aptitude of Teacher of Musical Education (PEA). Polyglot and cosmopolitan, she speaks 6 languages and gives Masterclass around the world, often in the language of the country. She is international artist of Miyazawa Flutes, Japan since 2003 and plays on a Platinum flûte 900/000 (0.28) Type II Boston Classic.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Mihi Kim studied in France and Germany, at the National Conservatory of Music of Paris, Hochschule of Cologne, Hochschule of München with the teachers Alain Marion, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Andras Adorjan, Aurèle Nicolet, Paul Meisen and Pierre-Yves Artaud. She holds the equivalent of a DAI (Diploma of Performing Artist, Ph.D. in interpretation from the Conservatoire CNSM in Paris) obtained in 1998. She is laureate of the 5th International Competition Jean-Pierre Rampal in Paris and won the 1st Grand Prize at the International Music Competition in Bayreuth, Germany. Mihi Kim has perfected her art by taking inspiration from masters such as Maxim Vengerov, Martha Argerich, Shlomo Mintz, Hilary Hahn, and Master James Galway, with whom she enjoys a close and friendly relationship.
