Prof. Qi Wang

Wang QiProf. Wang earned the Diplôme Supérieur Enseignement de Flute Traversière in 2008 under Philippe Lesgourgues from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Almost a decade prior to his study in France, he received the Bachelor of Music degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1997 studying under Prof. Lin Ke Ming. Immediately upon graduation from Shanghai, he was appointed the Principal Flutist of the China National Ballet Symphony Orchestra and began teaching at Shanghai Normal University the following year.

Prof. Wang was a second prize winner of the China National Chamber Music Woodwind Quintet Competition. He has been frequently invited as the guest principal flutist and piccolo player with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oriental Symphony Orchestra. As a solo flutist, he has been invited to perform recitals in USA, Italy, France, Japan, Taiwan, and more. As a conductor, he appeared with boththe  Asia Flute Choir and China Conservatory Nanjing College of Arts Flute Choirs.

An accomplished educator, Prof. Wang founded the Harmony Flute Choir at Shanghai Normal University in 2005 and has been leading the choir as both music director and conductor. The Harmony Flute Choir has performed in major cities in Asia such as Hong Kong, Tokyo, Beijing and Shanghai and has captured numerous awards and prizes in China. In 2012-2013, Prof. Wang was invited to present solo recitals and master classes at both Temple University and Emporia State University in the US. He has been an active organizer of flute events, bringing in famous flutists from China, Korea, and Taiwan to give master classes and concerts. He has organized three flute festivals that attracted hundreds of flute players and teachers from all of China. He has also successfully organized three “Solexa” Flute Competitions in Shanghai.
