Dr. Jason Wang

Jason WangJason Wang has performed widely across the United States, Europe, and Asia, appearing as both a soloist and chamber musician.  A prizewinner at many competitions, including the Heida Hermanns International String Competition, he has performed at music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Taos School of Music, and the Kalkalpen Music Festival, and has enjoyed collaborating with members of the St. Lawrence, Brentano, Chicago, and Ying String Quartets.  Since coming to China in 2007, he has given solo concerts at the National Performing Arts Center in Beijing, the Shanghai Concert Hall, the Oriental Arts Center, and the Shanghai Conservatory.  Dr. Wang previously served as the assistant principal cellist of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and was formerly a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He is currently on faculty at the Music Middle School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Wang holds a doctorate degree in music at the Eastman School of Music.  A Presidential Scholarship recipient, he received degrees in electrical engineering and in music, both summa cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.  While at CWRU, Mr. Wang received the Charles E. Clemens Prize for Music and the Joan Terr Ronis Recital Prize.  After living in France, where he studied with Michel Strauss from the Paris Conservatory, Mr. Wang received a fellowship to attend Stanford University, where he earned a masters degree in electrical engineering.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Wang began his cello studies at the age of 3, and has studied under Alan Harris, David Ying, Stephen Harrison, and Richard Aaron.
