Ge Xu

geMs. Xu has been recognized throughout China as a flutist and educator. A faculty member of the Orchestral Instruments Department at Wuhan Conservatory since 1996, she was the first student in the history of Wuhan Conservatory enrolled in the graduate school without taking an entrance examination. Under the instruction of celebrated Chinese flutist, Mr. Li Xuequan, she earned her master’s degree from Wuhan Conservatory.  In 2005, she attended the Conservatoire National of France sponsored by the Consulate of France and Wuhan Conservatory.  She studied with Vienna Conservatory professor Mr. Werner Tripp, in the China-Austria Music Festival.

An award winner of The Second National Flute Competition in 2000, Xu has been the principal flutist of the Oriental Symphony Orchestra since 2001.  She is active on the classical music stage in China and some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Goldener Saal Wiener Musikvereins and Beijing Concert Hall. Her recurrent stage appearances included The Night of Magic Flute concert with The Female Flute Quartet at the Beijing Music Festival.  She has invited to perform in the Master Concert – The Voice of China during the Beijing International Flute Festival. During a tour with Oriental Symphony Orchestra around Europe, her performance in the Vienna-Lunar New Year Concert was live on China Central Television and highly appreciated among the Chinese classical music community. She is frequently invited as a committee member of renowned flute competitions in China, such as the Chinese Golden Bell Award of Music, Nicolet International Flute Competition and Woodwind Academy Competition of Central Conservatory of Music. Many of her students have been competition winners in China.  She is also an instructor of graduate students in Wuhan Conservatory and President of Chinese Musician’s Association Flute Division’s Hubei Province Branch.  Xu was recgonized in Hubei’s Top 10 Distinguished Young Specialists and awarded a French Distinguished Scholar Scholarship.

In addition to performances and teaching, Ms. Xu is also a recording artist. The China Central Television and Hubei Television launched her video recording, Flute Cantabile –Ge Xu Flute Recital, in 2006. Her recording, Jin Nian Chuan, is a government sponsored national project that was released by Beijing Global Audio.  Hubei Television Station Art Department filmed several personal music documentaries on her.  In 2004, Hubei Pictorial published an article, The Passionate Flutist-Ge Xu, an exclusive interview on Ms. Xu.
