Join us for this year’s Global Summer Institute of Music! Come and learn with musicians from all over the world as they participate in workshops and masterclasses on the campus of VCU. Highlights of the program in 2020 include a showcase concert at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, as well as ten concerts for fellow participants and the Richmond community. Off-campus venues in Richmond include the VMFA, Gottwald Playhouse and the Westminster Canterbury, among others.

The Institute will culminate with a concerto competition with winners performing with the GSIM Festival Orchestra at the closing gala concert on Aug. 6. GSIM has grown to be a full, 12-day festival including disciplines such as piano, strings, voice, woodwind, percussion and composition with faculty and participants from the U.S., Asia, Europe and Central America.

The 2019 GSIM included 70 active participants, a dozen observers and 15 guest faculty, together with VCU resident faculty. Two featured guest artist gave spotlight masterclass and workshops: Ransom Wilson, one of the most sought-after flutists, author and media reporter of America; Verona String Quartet, one of the most outstanding quartets of the young generation, winner of the 2015 Concert Artist Guild Competition in New York.

During the 2020 festival Participants will continue to have daily one-on-one instrumental lessons, chamber music coaching, lectures, masterclasses, and workshops at VCU Singleton Center for Performing Arts and the James W. Black Music Center. Theatre/acting classes and italian diction classes are provided for voice students.
