Sabina Shu-Chun Chiang

Sabina Shu-Chun Chiang is one of the leading flautists and pedagogues in Taiwan. After completing her music education at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, she was appointed Co-Principal Flute in Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra until she went to further her study at the Royal Academy of Music in London with the worldwide-known flute professor William Bennett. In Taiwan, she studied with flute teachers Prof. Huei-Jin Liu, Shiau-Hua Niu and Mario Bonzagni.

Prof. Sabina Chiang is highly acclaimed for her sincere musicality, warm tone, color and excellent control of pitch. Due to her enthusiasm in discovering new music, she plays a lot of contemporary music, both Taiwanese and foreign flute music. She is the founder and leader of the Golden Woodwind Quintet in Taipei, in this capacity she has commissioned 15 quintet works from Taiwanese composers through the past fifteen years.

Prof. Sabina Chiang has won many prizes in Taiwan. Abroad, she was finalist of Japan Flutists Association solo competition in 1987, and was awarded the Audience Prize. She also has played as soloist with many orchestras: National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Moment Musicaux Orchestra, Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra, I Musici De Montreal, Symphony Orchestra of Taipei Municipal University of Education, Symphony Orchestra of National Taiwan Normal University, Symphony Orchestra of Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University. She has performed solo at notable venues worldwide, such as New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Seattle.

In 2007, Professor Sabina Chiang gave master classes at both Shanghai Conservatory and the Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory. Recently she has been featured as soloist for concerto and duo concerto, as well as invited as jury of competitions. She has been a lecture speaker at the Asia Flutists Federation Congresses, which took place in Tokyo,Taipei and Shengyang(China), from 2011 to 2013.

In July 2014, She was invited to be jury and soloist at the China Flute Association and Beijing Flute Festival. In August 2014 and 2015, She was invited to be jury and soloist in The Singapore Flute Festival. In August 2015, She performed a concert at the National Flute Association of U.S.A.

Currently Prof. Sabina Chiang serves as flute professor at the University of Taipei Department of Music. She is also leader of the Golden Flute Choir in Taiwan.
