About the Position: You will serve as a Forensic Biologist for the Defense Forensics Science Center (DFSC), an organization responsible for providing forensic laboratory support to U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) criminal investigation organizations and legal agencies, as well as other federal and non-federal agencies.


  • Performs duties in the analysis of DNA on convicted offender samples (or similar reference samples) and the submission of the DNA typing results to the National DNA Index System through CODIS.
  • Processes samples for the convicted offender mission (DNA databasing) in accordance with federal law and conducts analyses to develop DNA profiles.
  • Independently plans, organizes and devises the approach necessary to meet the mission of the convicted offender laboratory.
  • Uses experience and knowledge of a wide variety of instrumental analysis, methods, genetic analysis methods, molecular biology techniques and biochemical methods.

Basic Requirement for a Biologist (0401):A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
