The Virginia Department of Health, Office of Chief Medical Examiner is actively seeking to recruit a Morgue Attendant (Morgue Security Officer). This is a wage position and averages 15-29 hours per week, not to exceed 1500 hours in a year, and is not eligible for benefits.

This position is responsible for working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is responsible for receiving, releasing, and physically moving human remains, processing evidence/personal belongings, and ensuring the integrity of the evidence recovered and stored at the office. Computer data entry is required, in order to record activities. Responsible for monitoring access and admittance of visitors, the public, and organ procurement organizations to the building to ensure compliance with security policies. Answer all telephone calls to the morgue during shift and field questions from hospitals, funeral homes, doctors, families, and police agencies. Reporting of unusual or emergency conditions to appropriate authorities. Assists with morgue operations support duties, which include, but are not limited to: surveillance of the refrigeration systems, laundry, cleaning, and facility maintenance duties in the morgue area. This position will also perform administrative duties to include, but are not limited to: data entry, filing, faxing, photocopying, and printing of photographs.
