Shana Ryman awarded Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award
The annual VCU Staff Senate Awards for Excellence took center stage in March, honoring the unsung heroes who keep the university running smoothly. Among the ten distinguished winners, Shana Ryman stood out, recognized as a true Champion of Diversity and Inclusion.
The Staff Senate Awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the commitment and hard work of VCU employees. This year, 63 nominees were honored, each contributing uniquely to the VCU and VCU Health communities. As Staff Senate President Maya Rogers aptly quoted Voltaire, “Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” And excellent, indeed, were the contributions of Shana Ryman.
Shana, a Learning, Development, and Culture Specialist in Human Resources, was lauded for her unwavering dedication to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment. Her work goes beyond mere policy; it’s about creating a tangible sense of belonging for everyone at VCU.
“Nominees, you should feel really proud of your accomplishments,” said awards committee co-chair Priscilla Clayborne. And proud they should be. The awards highlighted the diverse talents and dedication of VCU staff, from those ensuring smooth research operations to those championing student success.
Shana’s award, the Champion of Diversity and Inclusion, underscores the importance of creating a campus where everyone feels valued and respected. Her dedication exemplifies the spirit of the Staff Senate and VCU Finance and Administration.
Congratulations to Shana Ryman and all the other winners and nominees!
