Alumni-owned business spotlight: India Wilbourne (B.S.’19)
VCU Alumni is highlighting Ram entrepreneurs in our alumni-owned business directory. Here, India Wilbourne (B.S.’19), owner of Richmond-based Indi Wilb Photography and Photo Booth, shares her business advice.
What tools helped you the most when you first started out?
Being in the medical field as a scientist and seeing a lot of trauma, I was looking for a healthy, stimulating outlet. I have always had a love for photography and capturing smiles. That sparked my interest further to jump-start my own business. Years later I added a photo booth to add some fun but sticking within photography.
What was the biggest challenge to maintaining your business?
My biggest challenge is maintaining a work/life balance. I work full time utilizing my degree as a scientist, an entrepreneur, twin mom and wife. There is never any down time, but I love the chaos of it all. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming and I have to step back a bit but I will never let go of the passion.
What advice do you have for people considering starting a business?
Go for it! You never know what you can achieve if you don’t try.
