Demo Day Spotlight: Spencer Strebe and Clear Ballot
Spencer Strebe is a VCUarts student known for bold ideas and a creative spark that shows up every time he steps into the Shift Retail Lab. As a two time Shelfie alumnus, Spencer has built a reputation for bringing fresh and unexpected concepts to life. This year at Demo Day, he introduced a venture that aims to support something we all depend on: trustworthy and accessible election information.
Clear Ballot is Spencer’s non partisan app designed to help voters cut through confusion and find reliable candidate and election details. The idea grew from a simple observation that navigating ballots and understanding candidates often feels overwhelming. Spencer saw an opportunity to create a tool that empowers voters with clarity, accuracy, and ease.

His Demo Day pitch highlighted the importance of informed voting and the need for tools that support civic participation. His ability to connect a community problem to a thoughtful digital solution resonated with the audience and judges alike.
At Demo Day, Spencer was honored with the CyberinnoVatioN Award sponsored by the CCI Central Virginia Node, a recognition that celebrates innovation and impact.
What comes next for Clear Ballot? Spencer plans to use his award to further develop the app, strengthen its data sourcing, and build partnerships that ensure voters have dependable information at their fingertips.
