cMEDA Summer Student Research Fellowship 2026<\/a>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this program is to help students get valuable experience in research focused on enhancing our understanding of the microbiome, or aimed at improving wet lab and data analytics methods for studying it, and to catalyze the development of microbiome-oriented research at VCU. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students are encouraged to identify a research mentor at VCU (VCU faculty member or clinician) with existing projects or an interest in starting microbiome oriented project. Students with no known mentor are encouraged to apply. If their project is selected for support, cMEDA will attempt to find an appropriate mentor with overlapping interests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recipient Obligations
– Perform full time research during this period (at least 6 weeks).
– Notify cMEDA if it becomes impossible to complete the fellowship.
– Present results (short talk) at a cMEDA Research Symposium of 2026-27.
– Acknowledge support of the cMEDA Summer Research Fellowship in all communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dates
– Application submission: April 15, 2026
– Decision release: early May, 2026

cMEDA Faculty Postdoc Seed Grant_2026<\/a>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this program is to catalyze the development of new microbiome-oriented research programs at VCU. cMEDA plans to provide support for early stage and transitional faculty, or postdoctoral investigators, fellows or residents working with faculty mentors to launch new microbiome oriented studies potentially leading to new intra or extramurally funded research programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of cMEDA Faculty\/Postdoc\/Fellow\/Resident Seed Grants is limited and competitive. Amount of the awards will depend on the number of high quality applications received\/funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cMEDA grant will provide seed research funds to support development of new microbiome-oriented avenues of research. The seed funds can be used for:
1. Reagents for purification of nucleic acids
2. Reagents for generation of sequencing libraries
3. Funds to support processing and\/or sequencing in the Genomics Core
4. Funds to support analysis of microbiome data
Salary\/stipend support is not permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recipient Obligations
\u2022 Perform the research within a reasonable period (3 months)
\u2022 Present results (short talk) at a cMEDA Research Symposium of 2026-27.
