The Wright Center is excited to continue its impactful Mentoring Pods initiative, designed to provide sustained guidance and career development for students passionate about medicine and healthcare. Following successful initial sessions in Spring 2025, we are thrilled to announce that the mentoring pod sessions will resume in Fall 2025, in partnership with Virginia State University (VSU). We are looking forward to working with VSU students and helping them reach their professional goals.

This structured mentorship program offers students a supportive space to explore career pathways, articulate their ambitions, and engage with experienced advisors. The small-group mentoring sessions are led by faculty mentors and structured around monthly meetings with an emphasis on career exploration, professional identity formation, and skill development.

A Hybrid and Holistic Approach

The program employs a hybrid model, incorporating both virtual and in-person interactions to ensure accessibility for all participants. Additionally, the PODs integrate career articulation exercises and the AAMC’s 15 competencies, which help students refine their professional narratives and prepare for future success.

The Mentoring Pods will include a group of students from two key VSU programs:

  • VSU Troyals Medical Scholars: A program dedicated to developing undergraduate students with a strong desire to pursue health-related fields.
  • VSU PRIME (Pre-Health & Related Interests Mentoring Experiences): A program that provides essential mentoring experiences for students with pre-health and related interests.

We are actively refining the structure and content of the PODs to ensure a meaningful and sustainable experience for everyone involved as we prepare to welcome back our cohort in the fall.
