As companies grapple with shifting workplace cultures, rapid advances in technology and mounting demands for sustainability, the VCU School of Business is introducing a new speaker series to explore how executives are navigating those pressures, and where innovation fits into the equation.

The program, called Expert Insights, is a four-part series sponsored by Richmond-based Universal Corporation. Each session will bring business leaders and other experts to campus for candid conversations with students, faculty and members of the broader Richmond community.

The inaugural season, “Navigating the Future of Business: Innovation, Culture and Sustainability,” will unfold over the 2025-26 academic year, beginning Oct. 31. Each event starts with breakfast and networking at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. keynote and faculty-moderated discussion.

The fall lineup includes Paul C. Harris, chief sustainability and compliance officer at Huntington Ingalls Industries, who will speak on sustainability and corporate responsibility, and William J. Groves II, chief executive officer of New Horizon Bank, who will discuss the cultural demands facing new CEOs. Spring sessions, scheduled for March 6 and April 17, will turn to technology and global entrepreneurship.

Organizers describe the series as a way to give business leaders room to talk through how they are meeting challenges as they happen.

“It is all about the practice of business and how well you can implement it,” said Robert Clarkson, corporate engagement associate director for the School of Business. “People want to hear directly from those making the calls, what works, what doesn’t and how that plays out day to day.”
