Your no-stress guide to getting the W at the Business Internship & Career Fair, Sept. 16-17.

By Megan Nash

Clear your calendars and maybe even dust off your “serious shoes.” The VCU School of Business is turning Snead Hall into the busiest networking spot on campus for the fall Business & Internship Career Fair on Sept. 16 and 17, 1–4 p.m.

More than 60 employers will be there, ready to meet their next hire. If you want in on the action, a little prep will make all the difference.

Step 1: Prep like a pro

  • Fix your resume: Think of this as your Spotify playlist. Make sure it’s current, polished and says something about you.
Use these templates to hit the right notes.
  • Do some recon: Check Handshake, circle your top employers and craft thoughtful questions.
(“So, what do you guys do?” doesn’t count.)
  • Polish your pitch: You don’t need to sound like a TED Talk. Just practice introducing yourself confidently.
    Watch this video for tips.

Step 2: Throw a fit

Visit the Suit Yourself Closet for free business attire. Show your VCU ID and pick up to six items.
Because yes, what you wear matters.

  • When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
  • Where: University Student Commons, first floor (across from Chick-fil-A)

Step 3: Get in some practice

No one nails it on the first try. Drop in for expert advice on your resume, elevator pitch or how to approach recruiters and save yourself the awkward pause.

This is where it all comes together. Meet recruiters hiring for externships, internships and full-time roles. Shake hands, ask smart questions and leave no doubt you’re the candidate they’ve been waiting for.

Every good hire starts with a first conversation. Follow these steps, and you’ll be ready to turn a five-minute chat into your next opportunity.

Career Fair FAQs (aka, things students actually ask)

Do I have to camp out at 1 p.m. sharp?
Nope. Come when you can—stay as long as you want.

Is it worth going both days?
Yes. A new lineup of employers comes each day.

Do recruiters still want paper resumes?
Yes. Bring printed copies to hand over. Start with our templates.

Why are there QR codes at the tables?
Scan them! Recruiters will collect your information, and it’s a great way to build your network and increase your chances for landing a job or learning about internship opportunities.

Wait, are internships actually paid?
They should be. Don’t be afraid to ask for details!
