Brian Brown appointed interim dean at VCU School of Business

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Business is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian P. Brown, Ph.D., as the interim dean.
Dr. Brown currently serves as a professor in the Department of Marketing at the School of Business and the VCU Brandcenter, bringing experience and expertise in brand strategy, with a focus on B2B settings.
In addition to his role as a professor, Dr. Brown has published extensively in top academic journals, including the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management (IMM), Journal of Brand Management and Journal of Business Research (JBR). He serves on the Editorial Review Board of JBR and recently co-edited a special issue on B2B Advertising for IMM.
Recognized for his excellence in scholarship, teaching and service, Dr. Brown received the VCU School of Business’ Award of Excellence in 2019 and the Teaching Excellence Award in 2014. His commitment to academia extends to his role as a 2022-2023 Provost Faculty Fellow.
Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Brown accumulated 15 years of corporate experience, including roles at The Coca-Cola Company and ExpoExchange. He has served on advisory boards for the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and Brand Federation, a brand consulting agency, and is a trustee of the University of Virginia’s (UVA) College Foundation Board.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Brown is actively involved in community service, serving on the executive council of Preservation Virginia and previously served on various non-profit boards, including the Amherst (MA) ABC House and UVA’s Walter N. Ridley Scholarship Fund.
He earned his Ph.D. from Georgia State University, MBA from Duke University and BA from UVA.
