This semester, Virginia Commonwealth University students have the opportunity to earn up to $50 in savings through a new program from the Virginia Credit Union Financial Success Center at VCU.

Rainy Day Rams is a saving program for VCU students aimed at jumpstarting student savings and promoting healthy financial behavior for life. Through the Virginia Credit Union (VACU) program, all VCU students who open a savings account with VACU between February 1, 2023 and April 15, 2023 will automatically receive $25 deposited into their account.

Students who complete a healthy financial activity will receive an additional $25 deposit. To be eligible for the second $25 savings deposit, students need to complete one of the following activities before April 15:

  1.   Meet with a Money Spot peer coach
  2.   Complete two (2) Financial Fitness Academy modules

“We are excited to partner with VCU to promote savings through the Rainy Day Rams program,” said Cherry Dale, Vice President Financial Education for Virginia Credit Union. “Making savings a priority is one of the most valuable financial skills a person can learn, so we are happy to jumpstart student savings with an initial $25 deposit, plus an additional incentive to reward healthy financial behaviors.”

“VCU is extremely fortunate to have Virginia Credit Union’s support to allow students to get a jumpstart on savings,” said Amy Pridemore, Executive Director for the VACU Financial Success Center at VCU. “While many consumers are struggling with high costs of inflation, Virginia Credit Union has provided an amazing opportunity for students to continue to save through the Rainy Day Rams program.”
