National Retirement Security Week, October 18-24
October 18-24 is National Retirement Security Week (formerly National Save for Retirement Week). This is a great time to check out the multitude of free retirement planning, savings, and investment information tools and resources available to faculty and staff:
- Learn about your primary faculty or classified staff retirement plan and how it works:
- Virginia Retirement System Hybrid Plan (faculty and classified staff who joined VRS January 1, 2014 or later)
- Virginia Retirement System Plan 2 (faculty and staff who joined VRS prior to January 2014 but were not vested as of December, 2013)
- Virginia Retirement System Plan 1 (faculty and staff who were vested in VRS by December, 2013)
- VCU Optional Retirement Plan (faculty who elected this plan instead of VRS)
- Learn about the voluntary retirement savings plans that are available to all VCU employees (including faculty, staff, adjuncts, graduate assistants, hourly employees, and student workers):
- VCU 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity retirement savings plan (with Cash Match for eligible faculty and classified staff only)
- Commonwealth of Virginia 457 Deferred Compensation Plan (with Cash Match for eligible faculty and classified staff only)
- Register for the free Fall Financial Fitness Series workshops on campus
- Register for the free “Making the Most of Your Social Security” workshop offered on campus this month by the Social Security Administration
- Sign up for a free one-on-one advice session with a qualified on-campus counselor. Counseling appointments are available with:
- TIAA-CREF (for VCU 403b participants and faculty in the VCU Optional Retirement Plan)
- Fidelity Investments (for VCU 403b participants and faculty in the VCU Optional Retirement Plan)
- ICMA-RC (for faculty and staff in any Virginia Retirement System plan or the Commonwealth of Virginia 457 Deferred Compensation Plan)
